For these years, we couldn't have been here since we got a baby. Thus, we have an infant in this trip. It's less of a problem so far. Both the airline and the hotel have given us a great amount of cares. I didn't know the airplane has places for attaching cradles.

But the hotel room we booked is not allowed to use the crib, and the baby fell off the bed. Of cause it's not the hotel's fault. The stuffs are very honest.

Today I had a rush visit to Ping-Ling. Ping-Ling is one of the production center of chinese tea, and is located in the contryside of Taipei. It's too far to go with baby. So I went alone. My spouse and the baby spent the first day of Taipei lokking around this appealing city.

I realize that I'm easily envious of someone. I've even been envious
of someone because he could make me felt envious. Sometime, an envy
brought me some degree of motivation. But those motivation never caused
a real effort. I should restrict envy to myself or keep away from
greatness. Apparently, both of these approachs must be wrong.

I hard a radio news this morning that reports a local TV actor catch a
300kg bluefin tuna. It's not the politics or economics that was
provided as the top news of today. Instead, it was the story of a man
and a 600lb fish. Cool. In Japan, it seems that there's no more serious news
than tuna, even when the dreadful financial crisis or wars around the

Today, our favourite bakery closed their shop. The reason of the
decision, they said, was the rising cost. It's sad. And not only sad,
I flet tears. They had continued their business for decades. Closing a
shop is an event of the economies. Sure, it's the matter of economies,
especially the unbalenced economies of these days.

But rather, it's a life too. Local shop is definitely not a matter of
just the finance. It's the real economies. That's why I felt tears.

Car drivers must not honk a horn at walkers and cyclists, at least in
the narrow streets. People shuldn't drive cars by themselves through
the center of Tokyo in the first place.

Of caurse, however, may taxi drivers in Tokyo, all of them drive
recklessly, be disqulified forever.

That is, the police must enforce the campaing against moron
drivers. Such a car driver is almost an unconscious murderer.

I definitely know that I cannot afford to enjoy concert for now. But today was the day of Krzysztof Penderecki, a famous Polish composer, conducted the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in Ueno. They performed his own Horn concerto, which was the first performance in Japan. There's no choice except participating in that.

Almost the only title that I usually listen to his works is the Viola concerto, though, I pretty like it. I think that his music has rather predictable strain but remains modern sound. Rational as well as passionate, while many of the comtemporaly works are mostly rational but sometimes passionate.

His new Horn concerto might be much of the mere idea, however. I felt that it's still a great work but could be more concise like his Sinfonietta per archi.

The best performance of tonight must be the 'Interstellar Call' of Olivier Messiaen, which was played by Radvan Vlatkovic, the horn solist in the main program, as an encore and an eulogy of Kaoru Chiba died this week.

I visited my friend's house which has been built just a month ago.
I felt the house so nice that I believed it will give his family a
comfortable space for their lives. I think its somehow cute exterior
represents a lot about him.

However, it's slightly far from my home. I'm becoming feeling lonely
as some friends has decided to live in the reageon beyond sburbs.

It's almost a complete bakery equipment just downsized for household use.

It automatically kneads, raises and bakes a dough all by itself.
Setting a dough and yeast, you will get a fresh bread in a few hours.

It can also make mochi, a sticky rice cake. But I'm usually fed up with mochi. I've been working hard for this week, but the work yields less
output. There's no output without input. Thus, I need input. And time,
I need, to get the input by my own hand. Constructing and exposing the
output is another matter.

Def Leppard seems to come to Japan near future. I've loved their
music for around ten years. Even the local radio show plays their
tune lately. Great.
But I won't go to their concert, because it's planed to be performed with
Whitesnake. Of course I'm not disliking Whitesnake. I'm just
disappointed. I can hardly imagine the purpose of the concert but for
earning money.

For those holidays, I've been developping a tiny implementation of
Lisp during daytimes and watching Star Wars during nights. To become a
Jedi, you are required to be able to build your own light saver. In
the same say, I realized, that to become a true Lisper you might as
well be able to implemtent your own Lisp by yourself. So I try to
become a true Lisper someday. May the lambda be with you :)

I could join two CS study meatings this week. There were a lot of other
seminars in which I alone was able to participate in for just a month
around Tokyo. I'm fortunate to live in this city. If my son want to go
to college in the suburbs in the future, I will be against
him. Because I am the man who regrets choosing a suburban college.

Some people tend to think education to be didactic. For example. they
manage to extract a good lesson from a picture book. Also, they
respect effort rather than effeciency. In my opinion, it's often the
case with a lot of teachers for an elementary school. That is why I dislike
most of elementaty school teachers.

I was going to go to Make:Tokyo,
but couldn't because my baby got fussy. He was so excited this
weekend. It's almost an addiction of a hug. Of course, that's OK with
me. But my spouse looks physically tired. So I bought her ume (japanese
apricot) and perilla juice that is known to be citric acid
rich.

As for me, I was finding time to implement a tiny Lisp interpreter for
this weekend.

I use Fuzzi Bunz in
combination with japanese traditional bleached cotton cloth
diaper. It's decent but I think I could do much better.

By the way, does Huggies have cloth diaper products? Ether way,
however, it doesn't matter, because Huggies is not available in Japan.

I'm sure it was because of the broken CD player that I've been failing
to get up early these days. I cannot spend early morning withoug music!
So the purchase of a new CD player was definately blameless.

However, I bought this secondhands (and lower-end model than I used to
use) player almost ten days ago. Since then, I could get up early only
once, today. Was it just a waste of money?

Last evening I joined a discussion among people involved in computer
books in several publishers. It's much more like the brown-bag meeting
or the BOF. Many sales people including the book store clerk also
participated. It was very enlightening to exchange views from variety
of angles.

In the computer books industory in Japan, we hadn't had a chance to
talk about the way of buisiness with other publishers, at least in the
editing field. I think we can do a lot of things than to keep our work
secret as ancient (maybe just one or two decades ago) publishers used
to do. I felt that people took part in the BOF yesterday have the same
mind.

They even didn't do a live of the Dalai Lama's press conference at last Thursday in the hotel near Narita Airport. Some TV station seemed to report blandly about the press conference on the evening news shows, but the public broadcaster NHK seemed to have almost neglected the press conference itself. I heard that a shameless reporter in a news show have expressed regret at the accommodation of the room the Dalai Lama stayed. I can't figure out the reason of such a sheer nonsense -- I've stopped watching TV at all.

General japanese newspapers also treat the press conference too lightly, in comparison with abroad papers such as New York Times and Herald Tribune. It seems that they just wrote their articles marely based on the short cover from Jiji Press.

I tried to translate the Jiji press's poor report about this press conference of the Dalai Lama. Words of the Dalai Lama are not his own English statements but translated from the japanese article by me.

The Dalai Lama, stopped over in Japan on his way to US, said "we shouldn't perpetrate violence," on the disturbance of the torch relay for the Beijing Olympics in cities such as London and Paris, and called for an end to the violence. He also said that he's still upholding the Olympics holding in China and he believes China is eligible host country, and emphasized he never changes his mind by the riots in Tibet.

Meanwhile, the Dalai Lama demanded the China's government to taka a pragmatic way of resolusion rather than the violent oppresion, saying "In China there occurs the same fray in the Hsinchiang Uighur autonomous region as in Tibet. It's time for China to accept the reality." He claimed more transparent information about the situation in Tibet and the necessity of building a 'society with harmony' based on the trust and the respect.

'Society with harmony' is the slogan of the President Hu Jintao too. It means the Dalai Lama made a demand of the slogan to be pervasive through Tibet.

At the same time, he condemned that the riot is just "the representation of indignations smoldering in Tibetan mind. It's not an independence movement." "We would be content with being under China in the diplomacy and the military. What we want is the autonomy in Buddism, culture, education, and so on." He refuted the idea of China that the Dalai Lama has planed the independence.

Again he called for research by the international authority for the revelation of the truth behind the riot.

I was badly forced to do paperworks today. Man often mistakenly feels

those papers I wrote today really be fertile?

I spent the afternoon with Chaitin's 'Meta Math!.' Though I'm still in
reading, it's so excited that I want to say something. Something about
books in general again.

I don't know the precise answer. But I feel that it at least isn't
because of the fact that it was published from a publisher.

trip to Kitasenju. We are planning to go to Ueno next weekend.

I made a presentation of my life with Scheme at an event called
Gauche.Night 2008. I haven't had a presentation for long years.
But today, I think I overcame the difficulty, with a certain degree of
beer and, of course, with support from everyone.

I recentry became to think that the good books aren't the medium through which
we just get information easier or learn some new knowledge. Rather,
good books ought to give reader restricted information dpending on the
reader's comprehension of the time. In other words, same books are able to
be read by a reader at several ages or a variety of stages of one's life. I can
hardly imagine other medium having such ability. I'd like to think more
about this characteristic of books if I'm working in the publishing.

Cloth diapers is not so economical if you use a liner.
Rather it's ecological. But I'm not ecologist. It's nice because the
odor smell does not remain with dirty diapers.

I'm reimplementing an in-house script from scratch because the
licence of the script is not able to be open. Although I wrote the
original one in my own leisure time, recent version is more
contributed by my office hour. Thus, I know the company owns that.

Anyway the original ideas have been laid down in my head. And my
understandings of Scheme has grown from when I wrote the original
one. Here's the outcome of this weekend, which was achieved cradling
the baby.

(lambda () '())))

(define sxml
  '(top
     (body (p "first sentence\n"
              (a (@ (val "20")) "the attr: "))
           (bold "emph this!")
           (li (item "first line")
               (item "second line")))))

(write-tree (cnvr sxml sxml))

The result is this:

first sentence
the attr: <20>
\bold{emph this!}
\begin{li}%
\item{first line}\item{second line}
\end{li}%

It has still a big problem with macro. Of course the problem is
variable capturing. If you define a rule with certain name like
"list", it overide the procedure "list". But I decided to expose
it in as-is.

I skipped writing for several days. It's still hard for me to think in
English having the other things to do. Practice is habit. But being
with a baby keeps adults away from their old habits.

Even a sentence is enough.

My friend, the man wearing the fake NASA costume in the right photo,

to realize that the man is not harmful. In reality, he stoped crying
just because he drank a prenty of breast milk.

Gauche, one of the most powerful scheme R5RS implementations, has
define-macro special form. <del>It's useful but can take only one
procedure as the defining form. So I use values special form to set several
forms in one define-macro. For exapmle, </del>

<del>(define-macro foo
  (values
    '(define ...)
    '(main form ...))</del>

<del>I wonder this technique is appropriate. </del>

I've misunderstood. I'd do like this.

(define-macro foo
  `(begin
    (define ...)
    (main form ...))

I am a slow book reader. I can read Japanese books at at most 50 pages per an
hour. The speed is down to at most 10 pages per hour for English
books. I'm adoring everyone havine speed-reading ability. Is it just an
ability of recognizing characters at fast pace? Or, is it required other
ability? Can a man achieving a speed-reading skill read a specialized
book without the domain's specific knowledge?

I met Joel Spolsky, who is in Japan now. I managed a project of
publishing the translated version of his first book several years
ago. And it was the first time I can get the chance to talk with him.
He didn't speak, say, ironically at all against his writings.
Contrary, his presentation was filled with jokes and ironies
and it was so fun. It must be more atractive without translations
because he seemed to wait before saying each sentence until the
translator finished the last sentence. Anyway, I could have had a nice
day. Thank everyone whom I talked with today.

In my opinion, the expecting father had better have an experience to
hold a newborn baby who still cannot hold its head by oneself.
Otherwise, once he becoming a father, he will be paralyzed with over
scares. In reality, there is no need to be scared, but is required to
be just cautious.

If you will be a father in the near future and by
chance have a friend getting baby lately, you ought to find
opportunity to ask him/her to let you hold his/her baby.

I was reading the erlang book through this weekend at my spouse's
parents' home. There are a kind of book on the computer science that makes
some readers feel hard to understand it, though it really isn't. Books
are one of those easy-to-misunderstood products. It takes long time to
be realized the real value of certain books.

Another friend gave me, preciselly our baby, the soup set as a
gift. I owe you. Thank you very much.

It's not gaudy but adroit gift. (and must be expencive.)
It's practical, because the baby needs to have us take a bath.
But most of all, I and my spouse are fond of natural soap.
We've quit using chemical soap. I'm looking forward to open
the package.

I spend every weekend at my spouse's parents' home with her and the
baby. My work there is to change his diapers. But the events occur
every two or three hours, so I devote most of time reading books,
taking photos, or just sleeping.

It's moderate but somehow boring but still so peaceful time. That
restful era isn't long, I presume.

My friends gave our baby wooden toys made in Swiziland as his newborn
gift. Thank you very much. He will like it, though it might become my toys
rather than him ;) Anyway, thank you again.

And more, they chose a wooden teether as an additional present for him. It's too lovely for any words. I'll bring it to him this weekend and take the baby's photo with it.

Today my spouse and baby left the hospital where they've lived for the last
five days. It was the first moment the baby experienced the outer
world out of the closed secure environment. Unfortunately it was a
chill snow day.

The baby seemed to be confused when he arrived his grand-parents' home,
in which they will spend the next month. He made me change his diaper
a dozens of times. I became aware that the most inportant thing we
should care on changing diapers is to know the time pattern.

My favorite doughnuts shop has redused trans fat. It's still not
enough but a commendable activity. I heard that Krispy Kream has
eliminated all of trans fat from their products in US. However, in
Japan, even Krispy Kream seems not to care about trans fat at all.
Food companies can sell trans-fat-rich-products with impunity in this country.
I wish the MHLW, who hasn't cared about trans fat for now, obliges it.

We received a lot of congratulatory e-mails from friends. Thank you for all
the words.

I visited the hospital to see my spouse and our baby, who was entirely
drowsy. I know infants keep sleeping at the first day of their birth,
though they are awakened for two or three hours immediately after birth.
But his deep sleep still made me uncertain about his life.

According to her e-mail I just received, he screamed for breastmilk
every hour after I left the hospital.

When I got back to the home, three men were working around the
apartment building. I soon recognized a company emblem of the gas
firm on their uniform. I thought there were a gas failure in some
resident's room. It's nothing unusual.

However, I could smell gas. And they had broken the concrete ground
next to the entrance open. If only one room has had a problem, they
wouldn't ruin the shared space.

They said gas leak was from a trunk line supplying gas to this whole
building. Thus, my house also has been under danger of gas explotion
this afternoon.

Now the crack on the pipeline is fixed and I can use the gas stove --
I must have cold without heat tonight. Living in the city is like
walking on a knife-edge, I become keenly aware of that occasionally.

I had a toilet tank problem this morning and was almost being late.
According to this
illust, the lift wire was unlinked from the trip wire
accidentally. More than that, there was something wrong around me
today.
But now after dinner with a friend, all the bad feelings has gone away.

I just read an entry of Wikipedia explaining 'Elimination communication'. EC is not
familiar in japan, so I didn't hear about it until I happened to get
this entry. hmmm... I think this method as quite natural, though I
consider it in a different manner. It certainly enhances baby's
communication ability -- EC itself insists so. But I interested in EC
because, in the first place, I think it is literally the natural way
of baby learning where and how to toilet. I know pet kittens shortly
after birth learn to go to their toilet by the same methods. That is,
we get the signals and have them taken to the toilet and make some cues
when they are in their toilet. And, of course, we don't put them
something diaper. I don't notice any difference between both, at least
on a potty training.

My spouse said her preference of taste has shifted since her
pregnancy. She now loves something salty rather than sweet, in contrast
with her previous favor. Generaly, it's said that a women becomes
loving salty if she carry a boy and the other way around. This
superstion appears to be true for now as far as I can inquire.

Today I had a first chance of eating Krispy Kream doughnuts.
(A colleague bought us them as a present!)
I should regret eating five peaces of them.

And, though, I happily ate a lot of that, I prefer andonand, which is
another chain of doughnuts stores in japan, to Krispy Kream...

We visited both of our parents to say 'Happy New Year.'
On the way to my mother's home town, I left my muffler in the train
and went to the terminal station to pick it up. It was somewhat fussing
new-year's day.

I enjoyed bowling with friends. The game itself was really fun. But
I was fed up with the smell of the bowling center. I would keep
smiling if all the cigarettes were fully odor-free.
The smell absorbed by my hair and clothes is always killing me.

The local mall is filled with vigorous peace in this season. The
