Okuizome

The last Saturday was the 100th day aniversary of our baby. So the next day we privately had a japanese traditional ceremony called Okuizome, means 'first meal of ones life.' Babies of course are not able to eat any meal in just 100 days old. So he's just pretending to eat.

Bumbo

My spouse's friends came to see our baby this afternoon. They gave him a Bumbo, which is a peculiar chair for baby.

In the picture, he seems not to like sitting in Bumbo. But he was just starved at that time. He really likes it. Thanks for the nice present. It will also give us ease.

I should hold her in esteem, as she is so strict on her job. But at the same time I am worried about her condition. She deserves a reasonable work now.

Lucky circumstance

I could join two CS study meatings this week. There were a lot of other seminars in which I alone was able to participate in for just a month around Tokyo. I'm fortunate to live in this city. If my son want to go to college in the suburbs in the future, I will be against him. Because I am the man who regrets choosing a suburban college.

Some people tend to think education to be didactic. For example. they manage to extract a good lesson from a picture book. Also, they respect effort rather than effeciency. In my opinion, it's often the case with a lot of teachers for an elementary school. That is why I dislike most of elementaty school teachers.

Citric Acid Juice

I was going to go to Make:Tokyo, but couldn't because my baby got fussy. He was so excited this weekend. It's almost an addiction of a hug. Of course, that's OK with me. But my spouse looks physically tired. So I bought her ume (japanese apricot) and perilla juice that is known to be citric acid rich.

As for me, I was finding time to implement a tiny Lisp interpreter for this weekend.

About Cloth Diaper

I use Fuzzi Bunz in combination with japanese traditional bleached cotton cloth diaper. It's decent but I think I could do much better.

By the way, does Huggies have cloth diaper products? Ether way, however, it doesn't matter, because Huggies is not available in Japan.

Party

Our department had celebratory dinner togather. I think we were in a good mood. I wouldn't mind such a party at all. The only fault was that the working student was quite dense.

cranky

My baby is crying and laughing and screeming if I stop holding him. He never get to sleep by any means. Thus, this is all I can write today.

The new CD player ought to make me get up early.

I'm sure it was because of the broken CD player that I've been failing to get up early these days. I cannot spend early morning withoug music! So the purchase of a new CD player was definately blameless.

However, I bought this secondhands (and lower-end model than I used to use) player almost ten days ago. Since then, I could get up early only once, today. Was it just a waste of money?

The BOF of people concerned with computer books

Last evening I joined a discussion among people involved in computer books in several publishers. It's much more like the brown-bag meeting or the BOF. Many sales people including the book store clerk also participated. It was very enlightening to exchange views from variety of angles.

In the computer books industory in Japan, we hadn't had a chance to talk about the way of buisiness with other publishers, at least in the editing field. I think we can do a lot of things than to keep our work secret as ancient (maybe just one or two decades ago) publishers used to do. I felt that people took part in the BOF yesterday have the same mind.

Illitating japanese journalism

I think mass media in Japan have been making a huge blunder to cover the East Asian topics without slant for decades. They even didn't do a live of the Dalai Lama's press conference at last Thursday in the hotel near Narita Airport. Some TV station seemed to report blandly about the press conference on the evening news shows, but the public broadcaster NHK seemed to have almost neglected the press conference itself. I heard that a shameless reporter in a news show have expressed regret at the accommodation of the room the Dalai Lama stayed. I can't figure out the reason of such a sheer nonsense -- I've stopped watching TV at all.

General japanese newspapers also treat the press conference too lightly, in comparison with abroad papers such as New York Times and Herald Tribune. It seems that they just wrote their articles marely based on the short cover from Jiji Press.

I tried to translate the Jiji press's poor report about this press conference of the Dalai Lama. Words of the Dalai Lama are not his own English statements but translated from the japanese article by me.

The Dalai Lama, stopped over in Japan on his way to US, said "we shouldn't perpetrate violence," on the disturbance of the torch relay for the Beijing Olympics in cities such as London and Paris, and called for an end to the violence. He also said that he's still upholding the Olympics holding in China and he believes China is eligible host country, and emphasized he never changes his mind by the riots in Tibet.

Meanwhile, the Dalai Lama demanded the China's government to taka a pragmatic way of resolusion rather than the violent oppresion, saying "In China there occurs the same fray in the Hsinchiang Uighur autonomous region as in Tibet. It's time for China to accept the reality." He claimed more transparent information about the situation in Tibet and the necessity of building a 'society with harmony' based on the trust and the respect.

'Society with harmony' is the slogan of the President Hu Jintao too. It means the Dalai Lama made a demand of the slogan to be pervasive through Tibet.

At the same time, he condemned that the riot is just "the representation of indignations smoldering in Tibetan mind. It's not an independence movement." "We would be content with being under China in the diplomacy and the military. What we want is the autonomy in Buddism, culture, education, and so on." He refuted the idea of China that the Dalai Lama has planed the independence.

Again he called for research by the international authority for the revelation of the truth behind the riot.

Being in the office during the lunch time makes me depressed.
